of blazing skulls and redeeming penance

i've always loved liked the comic's Ghost Rider. there's something about a blazing skull ridin' down the highway on a hellcycle burning tarmac, heart and head filled with revenge ... with his "penance stare"; appeals to us guys (dun it?) ... no, not Meatloaf with a bat out'a hell, thank yew berry much :p

... and the only reason why i didn't ask for help with information about the upcoming Ghost Rider live-action movie, is coz of two peeps: Nicolas Cage and Mark Steven Johnson ...


now, i lurve Nic most times ... matchstickmen/conair/the rock et al ... but as Johnny Blaze?



dude, what's with the "toupe"? now i ain't goin' on about whether it should be "blond" hair versus "black" ("blonde" = Gone In 60 Seconds *loved that flick tho*), heck, Keanu went with black instead of blond and brown (hair and trenchcoat, that is) ... but whether or not he could live-up to the comics character (as ALL comic-character-made-into-live-action-flicks do) is a question buzzin' at the back of my mind ... but then again, Keanu convinced me fine and dandy, as did the excellent (IMHO) Michael Keaton in Batman 1 + 2 (which blew me away, 'natch) ... so we shall see ... for in the end, tis not really the fault of the "actor", is it - when it comes to their roles on the silver screen?

and for most times, i'd blame the movie-director for their choices and other various "shortcomings" yaddayaddayadda ... cue Mark Steven Johnson ...

the rancid lemon that was Daredevil (and let's not even go into the "pseudo-tranny-ninja-flick" that was Elektra; for which he produced) ~ (and hey, tis my own personal opinion, so bugger off sunshine if i dun feel for these flicks the way you do, okay? cheers)

and yes, i was personnally "insulted" by what had been offered on the big screen (speaking as a fanboy, that is - and no specifics, coz i sure ain't no film-reviewer, innit? muahahaha *BAH* :p), which only serves to heighten my disgust with major studios trying to cash-in on "the current comicbook hero-to-screen-money making mentality (which of coz is a double-edged sword, for if they didn't bankroll it, we wouldn't be able to see anything beyond Batman and Superman, innit? heh) ... altho recent reviews of the DVD/-Director's Cut has gotten me wondering beyond my own baised opinion ... and hence put into battle again; "the fan versus the suits" ... and of coz reading this messageboard (for which im spending way too much time on anyways :p but i like) had gotten me into "fanboy-mode" with excitement and anticipation for Ghost Rider!

(but not enuff for me to go out and buy the DD-DC-DVD :p *bah*) and new-found respect for a director to be able to want to share with his/her own fans and face them online = *kewl* ... tis something that i reckon most directors to come have to do (in this new cyber-age), coz tis the fans that watch alla this shitte (and by that i meant "good kick-ass-shitte" :p), innit? ~ much less having "niche-movies" becoming "mass-market-cashcows" and hence diluting the original source (major fear), innit? IMHO of coz :)

but really, speaking as someone who works in the media industry (and wannabe director) , before i can make a movie myself, mayhap i should curb my comments? but then of coz im speaking as a comic-fanboy in this here entry lah *nyuknyuk*
