of newuniverses and re-imagined heroes
:: COMICS ::
the one (and only) "thing" about the New Universe (circa 1986), which i liked was that they were "supposed" to happen in "real time" ... which most meant a "month" had passed in-bewteen each issue ... sorta like a "reality-tv-ish-premise", except that it's on a printed comic ... and of coz iwas one of those suckahs bought almost every first issues of each comic and mayhap even carried on the collection (memory is very faint, mind), most notably Star Brand (which was of coz due in a very large part to John Romita Jr's art lah :p) ... but perhaps they appealed to me not as much as it did then, coz i sure dun remember much of them now! *heh*
and now they're gonna remake them? with Warren Ellis helming it? goodgawd, man! = i place my "faith" duly on Ellis' shoulders and im hoping for moredrugs, psychosis, weirdsex, death and lottsa perverse-angst "relevant-action" that them pseudo-superpowered-mortals' lives that they might live in today's age of comics (20 years is a long time to get "re-imagined" and made "relevant", innit?) but i like this this is "intriguing" so far:
Warren Ellis: "what *does* make a Marvel character work? (Answer: tragedy.)"
sounds *yum* already ... but frankly, i ain't gonna be holding my breath, much ... coz we be weary of "re-imagined" universes exploding unto our comicracks; as everyone goes back tostrip mine their back-catalogs ... altho with gems like the Ultimate Universe (not all, mind), my tredipations outdo my fear anyways ... just hoping we readers will get a good deal read, if not a good new experience, out of it all. :)
but does that mean we gotta hold onto the comics that we've thrown into the bargain-bin? *heh*

and speaking of "re-imaging", Blue Beetle's making a "comeback" and it ain't gonna be Ted Kord. thankgawd fer that, IMHO ...coz that would really sucky-slack and with Cully Hamner's designs and art waiting by the wings, im actually holding half-my-breath ... not coz i'm into the previous Blue Beetle, mind ...
as long as it doesn't go by way of "amour-upgrades" (for the sake of), which most times (done well) gets us fanboys up and punching our fists in the air ... while "others" just gets us groaning for dear life ... to wit:
*i rest my case*
*heh* :)
