kaiju vinyl madness
Definition of *KAIJU* [via Wikipedia] :
"Kaijū (怪獣), literally meaning strange beast or mysterious beast, is a popular Japanese term referring to monsters, especially giant monsters as portrayed in Japanese fantasy films (tokusatsu and anime), more precisely termed daikaijū. The similar term kaijin refers to human-like monsters in related genre. The most famous of these creatures is Godzilla"
seems "kaiju toys" are breaking out of their "niche" (IMHO) and are poised to make a "comeback" (if not "taking over") into the toy-collecting-consciousness of the vinyl-masses, what with the slew of upcoming vinyls from prominent toymakers and artists ... here's a basic-list of what has appeared online so far:
< the insectoid Gumos GID (by Dream Rockets and Shono Kikaku) from Max Toy Co. [read more via Vinyl Pulse] = *bubblegum-colored-creepy-cuteness*
< the upcoming Frank Kozik's Ika Gilas (Demon Squid) from Wonderwall [read more via Vinyl Pulse] - which is part of a series, with the second figure designed by Touma = *really looking purdy nice - hoping that they'd keep this protoype colorway, tho*
< also from Kozik comes/came the Hand Painted Death Trip / Zokki Kaiju Series, with Zagolan being the first to be given the Kozik-touch. presented by Ningyoushi and produced by japanese toy company; Gargamel. [ read more via Ningyoushi News] - with 3 different versions so far: Chrome, Anarchy and Death-editions. also see here for more Zagolan-madness! :p
and also from Ningyoushi is this collection of kaiju-vinyls ~ for which i have yet to find any info about ...
< *help, anyone?* :)
< and from Go Hero comes Yira (enemy of the excellent retro-ish Mechabot) = *deceptively cute and cuddly monster, i reckon* :p
< even Tim Biskup's Alphabeast, Alpha-Gaichou (available at Flopdoodle) looks kaiju-ishly-cute (IMHO) [read more via Plastic+Plush]
and altho personally, i ain't much of a kaiju-fan or lover, and the only "kaiju-ish" figures i might have, were Ultraman's, so i'd not attempt to analyse any further than just "an introduction" of vinyl-toys and the opinion that ya just can't refute the artistry of the current crop of vinyls, innit? much less the legions of fans that are already into them in the first place ... and sure as heck's Godzilla ain't alone nomore, innit? ...
*resisting the urge to collect kaiju*
