armchair critic : singapore idol
:: TV / LIFE IN SINGAPORE ::
and while i admit to be embroiled over the previous season's American Idol; with Bo-Pian-Bice against Carrie-Underwear-Wood and it's prior proceedings, the recent win by Soul-Patrol hardly left me with any dent in my teevee-watching habits. the same can be said for Project:Superstar versus Super-Boring-Band-Stand-In-Red-Square-You-Live-Gimmick-Show, which i haveta insist at this juncture that tis the programmers and producers ima referring to, rather than the contestants themselves. there is much to be said about quality control and presentation and whatever gimicky tomfoolery peeps can conjure up from out of their collective-asses and the contestants are made to stand in the middle of the stage, facing national teevee and singing and jiving their way to local-fame, awaiting phone-call-nirvana.
with that, i reckon watching the 2nd sesaon of Singapore Idol on 5 was like watching a meek political rally - becoz near everyone seems to be trying to shout their way across the microphone to the attendees while not utilizing their tone and not emoting as far as pronouncing the lyrics. and all you hear are supposidly audio-toned down light muffles. "no air", or as they say in mandarin; no "chi" ... and if i could SMS my vote across to get rid of the contestants - i would've made 5 seperate calls, in heartbeat-and-a-half. or i could've easily switched to another channel (and thereby averting any more gruesome spine-tingles and exploding goose-pimples) but as i mentioned to me mum; "it's so bad i gotta see thru the entire thing to see how bad it is and can be" = and i was not disappointed. much.
i feel the way Ken Lim looked; tortured, appalled and probably wondering if why he ever needed the dosh that he's paid for to sit thru these inane proceedings. my final take: if these two gentlemen (on right) aren't voted in thursday's show? there would be no hope for this show and i'd be able to dedicate myself more to the net. but of coz that's just me ...
and Gurmit? please stop the shouting. thanks.
