TOYSREVIL: tell us about your SaucerNauts, Charlie :)
CHARLIE: The SaucerNauts are colorful little aliens with 4 points of articulation and interchangable parts. Each character will be limited to 40 pieces, are hand cast, one of a kind, and hand painted and numbered. Each one will come in a numbered box that matches the number of the figures order in the production run and will be packed in with a hand colored and numbered comic strip. There are 3 characters (Billy, Teddy, and Geoff) in the first series, with one additional SaucerNaut, and a mystery character hopefully coming out down the road (fall ideally). In addition to the standard colors there will be some limited variants introduced throughout each characters run.
CHARLIE: I am going to be independently releasing these figures in mid-late June. I'm not a big company or a distributor, its really just me, my characters, and the desire to get some people to look at them :)
TRE: good on ya, Charlie! ... totally diggin' the interchangability of the figures! the "limited variants" sound intriguing - anything you can tell us about them now?
CHARLIE: As far as exclusives go, I currently have one glow in the dark blank that's pretty cool. Since its not mass produced I do have the advantage of being able to do short runs of whatever color I want. My goal is to (eventually) do 4 limited runs of 10 as exclusives.
TRE: personally im looking forward to DIY-blanks as well! :p ... how big are the figures? and how are the regular figures priced at?
CHARLIE: They are 3" tall, if you stand the green or red guy next to a Qee they're the same height, the blue guy is a little shorter :)
The price-point is pretty high right now since they're not being mass produced. To be able to break even I have to sell them at $30 a piece and keep them to 40 pieces. The reason for this is that the silicone in the molds begins to break down after 40 casts (they're cast in hand mixed urethane) so that automatically limits each piece to 40. Since I want to get them out into the market I'm just going to try and break even, so they will be priced at $30. To add value, I'll be hand numbering / signing each box and each of the main characters will get a unique comic packed in.
TRE: understandable seeing that they're hand-made/cast, yeh? ... the big question now is: where and when can we get them, dude?
CHARLIE: I'm hoping to get some kind of paypal system set up by mid June...
