"playing cards" seems to be one of the more understated recreational activities in Singapore (veiled understatement) - for me, tis most prevalent during the Chinese New Year-period (auspicious excuse to gamble angpao-money) and during Army Reservist (high-rollers amidst musty army bunks). blackjack being the main poison of choice. and now with the impending "Intergrated Resorts" (ie: government-sanctioned gambling :p) it may well be an eventual accepted social norm (not that there's been any violent disagreement prior, with minor exceptions ;p)
