devil dog by osaka popstar x secret base

now, the only things i've found out about this DEVIL DOG vinyl-toy this past week are:(1) tis the mascot of pop punk-band Osaka Popstar and was the star of their animated "Wicked World" music video.
(2) it stands approx 7-inches tall (excluding pitchfork)
(3) it is made by Secret Base.
(4) it made it's unpainted-prototype debut @ SDCC circa 2006 (07?)
(5) it is currently listed on myplastichearts' NYCC-exclusive figure list.
yep, that's it thus far [info] - what is it's skin design? is it the Halloween Devil-Dog-version? or is it just plain red or blue colored? how many is made? how much and when? questions unsolved... - whatever excitement i had for this cutey-devil-doggy (who can resist a fire-breathing doggy?) has been but burnt to a wee amber from the search, the irony charrs ... meanwhile, peep the music video HERE instead (cheers for the headsup, Nadja! :p)
Is Steven Lee involved with this piece? If not, I'd have to say it's a shameless bite on his original Snorty and Friends sculpts. (Not the redesigns that came out last year, but the originals.)
ReplyDeletespot-on, anonymous! cheers for the reminder:

too bad as i've apparently heard Stevenhouse has ceased operations (?) - can anybody confirm that?
Actually I was thinking of the older body styles seen here: http://rotofugi.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/evilsnorty_lg.jpg
ReplyDeleteThe shape of the face and proportions really give it away!
I hope Stevenhouse hasn't given up the ship! The Carbots IMO were vinyl classics. :(
"Shameless bite?"
ReplyDeleteI don't get it....
You'd have to go back alot further than Steven Lee to find somebody able to claim < big head - small body - cute character > as original in the world of vinyl toys and Japanese character design.
