bandai @ anime festival asia 2008 (day zero)

Day Zero @ BANDAI's PLANET MECH Arena saw the set-up of a human-sized Gundam figure greeting vistiors as they enter Suntec City Halls 403-404 for the Anime Festival Asia 2008 [tagged]. More of a thorough-fare pragmatic display concept compared to their presence at the recent Singapore Toy & Comic Convention 2008 [blogged] - the Bandai banner flew high (literally) with a cube-balloon, and seperate booths showcasing Bandai's various products, in as many a toy-genre. AFA08-PRESS RELEASE: “Bandai will be organizing a variety of activities in addition to our Planet Mech showcase and Bandai Action Kit Universal Cup (BAKUC), and we are delighted to host Kunio Okawara, one of the original designers of Gundam models. Families with children will also enjoy themselves with the myriad of activities happening during the weekend with “live” stage appearance by Power Rangers and Tamagotchi and other special programs like the Children Gundam Caravan,” said Wong Kah Fai, Deputy General Manager, Bandai South Asia.

BAKUC submissions on display at this pavilion, with a complete all round panel-barricade surround. While I would understand if the organizers did not want folks to touch the diorama-displays (knowing full well how some folks do not adhere to rules), but it did not benefit those who may one to have a closer-look at the display. Folks whose camera has zoom-lens may walk away with some cool-snaps for memories' sake. I walked away with a saddened toy-heart that I cannot post any images of crisp-value that I can share with my dear TRE-readers.

Would the display have benefitted with individual displays? Of Coz, but the cost will be astronomical.

Shown below are the winners for the Bandai Action Kit Universal Cup (BAKUC). "For the first time in Singapore, AFA08 has commissioned some of the top modelers in Singapore to construct a giant size Gundam diorama, featuring robots from the hit series “Gundam Seed Destiny”.
