For The Love Of Toys: Rotocasted.com
Sergey Safonov (of Lunohod-1) has this to say about the launch of Rotocasted.com : "For some time we're developing the idea of designer toys database with all the information about toys and everything behind them. Preservation of the data (year/edition/prices/artists info/etc) for art/collectible artefacts is very important, but at this moment there's no tool for storing and analyzing this information, plus, it would be nice to have an electronic copy of my collection with tools to sort and search and store my growing wishlist :)"
The alpha version of Rotocasted.com has been launched - with all the info imported into website database so everyone can create their collection profile and wish list right now and learn more about some toys. [CLICK THRU to read more]
FYI: The inception of the website first started with the Flickr group @ http://www.flickr.com/groups/rotocasted - where toys were tagged with powerful Flickr tags engine. Peep here where it explains in detail the coding-procedures. The images on the flickr-pool is generated within the archives aka "Toy Library" of Rotocasted.com.
You know what's the cool thing (to me) about Rotocasted.com? It's that it combines the archival aspect of toys (information + images = what Vinyl-Creep currently hasvia wikipedia), with the quasi-social-networking cyber-lifestyle of the current masses, and made specific to a hobby / culture within a singular cyber-locale for likeminded-hobbyists and collectors to gather and geek out together (without the need to "add friends" and whatnot social-trappings ;p).
And I like lists, hell, I lurve LISTS - so in the end, if you do check out my profile @ www.rotocasted.com/TOYSREVIL - I have 46 HAVES and 242 WANTS. That's what the website does - let you list out what you have in your collection, as well as your personal wishlist. Don't go judging me like that! *I LIKE TOYS*
