WANDERING-MEMORIAL

Tis been quite a while since I've seen any Neth Creatures (have always wanted them tho) and here one of my current fav customizer Cris Rose concocts up an emotive custom with a wonderously dioramic-quality - dubbed THE WANDERING MEMORIAL = destined for the upcoming Into The Darkness group show @ 1:AM Gallery circa June 5th [tagged]. CLICK THRU for more images and a backstory to the custom-concept (and I do heart me them toy-stories) or go direct to Cris' flickr-stream for peeks. [Source]

Backstory:

By the year 2138, over population of the planet meant that a much greater number of people to needed to fit in the same space. With the cities overcrowded, one of the first things to disappear was England's graveyards. Only the most noble would rest under soil in very specific national memorial sites, the remaining population would find their remains de-molecularised and recycled.

With the death of a much loved public figure known only as The Earl, there was such intense national mourning and so many visitors, that the city around Memorial Alpha ground to a halt. After two months of pleading with the public to stop flooding in, Runcible's creator was tasked with a robotic solution. The government wanted a wall of crowd control droids to police the memorial and shepherd the populous around, but he had a better idea...

So it was that the Wandering Memorial was created. 2 metric tonnes of prime English soil encased in an autonomous walking robot, the Wandering Memorial would slowly walk from one city to another with the Earl's remains and that of his wife, stored within it. Anyone that wanted to morn need only wait for it to visit their area, and one by one they would be lifted up by it's arms and deposited into it's climate controlled dome.

Over the next 180 years, almost 6000 were deployed worldwide. Varying wildly in colour and design (built to order to suit the person), some wandered so far and for so long, that no one could remember who was buried inside them any more...

Many that broke down were left where they stopped, nothing but a social and technological curiosity from the distant past.
