Painted Custom Vimobots for San Diego Comic Con 2009

For the third TRE-preview [tagged] of custom VIMOBOTS for the Vimobot Custom Show at San Diego Comic-Con (Mimoco Booth #4938) - we take a special TRE-look at customs utilizing "paintwork" (as opposed to "form-manipulation") showcasing work from Jeremiah Ketner, Leecifer, Reactor88 and presenting a TRE-exclusive first look reveal of Cris Rose's Recyclebots!

Understand that the blank vinyl-Vimobot form stands 3.5 inches / 9cm tall and slightly under an inch in thickness - so working on such a scale can be a challenge, methinks! (well, at least for a quivering-hand amateur wannabe like me ;p)


The softness and ethereal notion of Jeremiah Ketner's custom paint-work belies the subtle deft skill of his brush, IMHO. With crisp-curls and tonal washes, this trio of custom-Vimobots are a joy to behold (even if only via online images).



Leecifer's paint style seems visceral at first look, and remains etched in the subconscious - via his choice of colors; which contrast and makes the figure pop out from it's original form - adding to the veiled whimsy of the characters that inhibit his creations and brush strokes - I am in constant amazement of his work :)


(Nice touch on the pink-cheeks too ;p)

Tikkis and Totems by Ryan Crippen aka Reactor88 astounds with the sharpness of the lines and clarity of design. Seriously, how dare I attempt to wax lyrical about Ryan's craft when the result looks as if it's printed off a production line? Hell, even crispier than a production figure can achieve, innit? (And no, I've not had the pleasure to see and hold his customs up close in-hand - if you did and do, give a shout-out in the comments section, thanks!)


I've the privilege to showcase a TRE-exclusive first look at UK-customizer (and deft story-teller) Cris Rose's trio of RECYCLEBOTS (two of which is for sale with the 3rd as a raffle prize). And while these particular customs straddle both descriptions of "paint-work" and "form-enhancement" - Cris' ability to create an unforgettable image and/or lingering notion; can not be denied, IMHO. Never has rust looked so splendid floating amidst the recesses of time, tinged with faint swirls of deja vu, wearing it like a poem.
