WHO-IS: Gup Gup is very kind and wants to help you out. Gup Gup won't just hug you and listen to you – though he'll do that too. Gup Gup wants to help you in very practical ways as well. Need a machine to help you tie that lace on your left shoe? No problem; Gup Gup will just invent one. Need a device to scrub behind your ears. I think Gup Gup is installing it in your shower right now. No, it's not a hassle for Gup Gup. His own home is full of such machines. In fact, it's so full, he has trouble move around inside. That's just another reason why he'd be delighted to come into your home to help you.
TOYSREVIL: How did the name "Gup Gups" actually come about, Nicholas?
NICHOLAS TAY: The name Gup Gups came about when my wife thought I resembled a Guinea Pig crossed with a Puppy. She started calling me Guppy, then Gup, then finally Gup Gup. I then started doodling a little character named Gup Gup and that became the toy design. While I was in Hong Kong visiting my wife's parents I met my business partner Andy Tang who thought Gup Gups was a great name - so we went with it...I don't think he even knows the origin of the name.
