G1988-EVENT-PRESS: Gallery1988 (Melrose) is kicking off 2011 with what will be its biggest show in the gallery's 6 year history. "Is This Thing On?" will feature over 100 artists creating portraits of your favorite funny people. With the help of our friends at FunnyOrDie.com, Gallery1988 (and co-curators Michael Rapaport and Chris Kurumada) have enlisted some of today's brightest art stars to portray some of our favorite comedians of yesteryear and today.
I unfortunately happened to have watched the finale of "Last Comic Standing" last night, and it was anything but awful. This show doesn't seem that way, especially with Alex Leighton's ?Will Ferrell" sculpture posted below (from "Anchorman"). Check out the full list here.

"Mr. Whistlecraft's Tarnished Daydreams" launches April 1st 2011 @ Iksentrik Bath - featuring Doktor A in his first solo show in his home country! The show will featuring around 30 pieces - including drawings, dimensional works, and some toy customs. (FYI: The distinguished lady above is named; Amnesia Primm). I am personally a huge, huge fan, and this is quite a treat (even if I am experiencing it online). Do check out fore info or updates on the Facebook event-page.
And this is an all-important update from Iksentrik:
"The previews list will go live ONLY to those who subscribed 1 week before April 1st 2011. You won't be able to purchase direct from the list page but it has all the details and prices. Interested buyers are to email the gallery with first and back up choices. First come first served.
The idea is it takes the pressure off the selling on the opening day for Iksentrik as well as Doktor A.
We will also hold some of the smaller pieces back for opening night so that people who have made the effort of traveling to the gallery have the chance to purchase something on the day.
The previews list will then go live via the Iksentrik website for all remaining items to be purchased by all on April 1st 2010."
Want in on the Previews List? Email ryan [at] iksentrik.co.uk. "Mr. Whistlecraft's Tarnished Daydreams" exhibtis thru April 30th, 2011.
This no doubt is waaaaay too early to mention an event, but the sheer possibilities of it gets me tres-excited! Circus Posterus presents The Tomenosuke-syoten Monsters and Misfits Japan Exhibition - happening April 12th and exhibiting thru April 30th - just in time to coincide with the Takayama Spring Festival (April 14-15 - festival pics can be seen here).
Involved artists include Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters and Chris Ryniak (three of whom will be in attendance) - aka a selection of my fav artists currently practising now. Expect Tomenosuke-syoten exclusive debuts and releases, an exhibition catalog, and of course, customs. Can't wait to see wisp and congrats Tomenosuke!
