Conan The Barbarian 2011

Tis been a while the movie-scape has gone "skirts and sandals", with the recent "Persus" being one of the few pics which feature nekkid hairy man-legs (Prince of Persia doesn't count does it? The hippy-hero wore leather pants, didn't he?). Memorable flicks akin include "Troy", and of course the ultimate, "Gladiator".

And while most above deal directly with historical and mythical characters, we have yet to see "fantasy" characters done justice. One of such characters is "Conan The Barbarian". Sure we had our beefy Arnold Schwarzenegger movies from the 80s (Conan The Barbarian and Conan The Destroyer), as well our fair share of laughter (have you seen the musical yet?) but I have yet to see justice done to the Robert E. Howard-written sword-and-sorcery creation. I had actually expected the films to be more, well, "barbaric", innit? Fair enough there are limits to film-ratings and tolerance, but a lame-Conan might well be a regular television matinee.

["Hear The Lamentation of the Women"!]

And while the burning houses spotted on Shockya fuels the notion, the Emoire magazine page scans spotted on SuperHeroHype of "Conan The Barbarian" itself (by way of Conan Movie Blog), reminds me of nothing BUT a tv-series, by way of Hercules or Xena the Warrior Princess. But hey, I am being unfair, as being "Ronon Dex" on tv's Stargate: Atlantis, he seemed to do well enough.

The muscled man with thick man-titties and a rock-star haircut (Motley Crue would be proud) is seen here brandishing his fancy sword with aplomb and panache, while sporting a weather proof mascara ~ or I am simply reading too much into these magazine scans? No doubt this might bring more of the younger generation into cinema seats, as Jason Momoa looks like a swell-slice of a quasi computer-game-generated "Conan", at the very least in the glamor page-shot. Catch the 3D-motion poster on http://conanthebarbarianin3d.com. Sorry, posted here is a still-version instead (the moving clouds does not mean much to me LOL / above image-right).

"Conan the Barbarian" is directed by Marcus Nispelv(2004's "Pathfinder"), and stars Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Bob Sapp, Leo Howard, Ron Perlman, Said Taghmaoui and Rose McGowan. The movie is scheduled for an August 19, 2011 release, in 3D. Hey, you mention Rachel and Rose, and that put a smile on my face :)
