SWEET STREETS @ WWA Gallery: Art Exhibition Co-Curated by Spank! (Nov 19)

The folks at SWEET STREETS are never resting it seems, with the August 20th showing at Munky King to come, they've just announced their November 19th gallery show at WWA Gallery - co-curated by Spank! from Japan.

Launching 7pm and exhibiting thru December 23rd, 2011 - Participating artists include: Bei Badgirl, Chikuwaemil, Eimi, HIME + YOU, Kevin Marburg, Keisuke Sato, Maria Finna, Martin Hsu, Madoka Kinoshita, Miss Kika, Plasticgod, Yumiko Kayukawa, Shojono Tomo, Shigetomo, yucachin', and more. While on the collaboration and exclusives-front, we will see works from Spank! x Shojono Tomo, Spank! x Chubby Bunny, and Onch Movement!. EVENT-PRESS: SWEET STREETS invites you to the exciting next installment of our self-titled group show, co-curated by Tokyo fashion brand Spank! This year's theme "American 80s Influence in Japan Today" explores the relationship between1980s American and Japanese pop-cultures by 35 international artists.

In the 1980s, America saw the resurgence of Hello Kitty, Studio Ghibli's first films, and anime blockbusters like "Akira" which continue to captivate artists. Spank! is not only inspired by 80s style, but also the "just want to have fun attitude" of Cyndi Lauper, My Little Pony, Barbie, and everything in between. Today in Japan, these 80's icons are charming an entirely new generation. An opening party will be held on November 19th, 7pm - 10pm, feat. live music, fashion show (and yes, pop-up shop!) by Spank girls!
