Space Ghost Toshiro by Juanito Maiquez for CE Contest 2 (2012)
STORY: Space Ghost Toshiro was once a Cosmonaut given the crucial mission to save the Planet earth from an impending asteroid disaster. The fate of the world was in his hands. At the moment he was about to pull the trigger to shoot a nuclear warhead into the asteroid, strange voices started whispering to him, ordering him to abandon his efforts.
He watches in shock as the disaster unfolds before his own eyes. The Earth is lit up by the impact, sending shockwaves across the planet, engulfing the skies in total darkness. As he drifts into nothingness for decades, mankind perishes in the disaster and succumbs into its swift extinction. Man-made mechanical beings break through as the dominant lifeform of the planet, though divided among factions, by disputes and total chaos. The drifting remains of Toshiro continue to float into outerspace. With his severe guilt imprinted as a ghost inside his spacesuit, android space wayfarers who cross his path experience either 2 versions of him -- the living Toshiro seemingly living out his last heroic moments, or the dead wanderer foreboding them of the evil deed he bore that caused his once proud civilization into its demise.
What is left of his remains awaits to reveal a very dark secret -- that the voices in his head were in fact from an imprinted chip inside his skull, forged by mechanized conspirators who wanted mankind wiped out of history.
"My only intention for the concept behind Space Ghost Toshiro is a throwback for the old-school way of designing robots, heavily influenced with Gundam RX78 and other franchises such as Voltes V, Dairugger, Thunder Sub, and the like which were popular in Manila as i grew up in the late 80's." ~mentioned Quix Maiquez
