From Eric Liem of Phantasma comes J-TOWN URBAN DA’CREW - a trio of characters currently available as a set of figurines housed in a handmade wood packaging for 1.200.000 idr for one set (approx. US$131), inclusive of a certificate of authenticity. Folks interested to score them are to contact Eric @ 0818906688 or email direct ilovephantasma@gmail.com.
In the upcoming few days, we'll have take a closer look at the individual members of Da'Crew, along with their bios - meanwhile you can view more images posted HERE on my Facebook-album. I had also asked Eric for the origin of the crew, including his influences for their design, which vibed that of the Hong Kong designers of the early 2000s - to which his reply was:
"J-TOWN URBAN DA’CREW is actually my final project at the university back in the mid 2006. The first idea is to represent the explosion of street culture movement in Jakarta, Indonesia. The J-TOWN URBAN DA'CREW came with 3 main characters, DOOM, VANDAL and SPICE.
Santa Inoue’s Tokyo Tribe and Hong Kong toy designers like Eric So, Tim Tsui, and especially Michael Lau are my biggest influence at that time. The first review about Michael Lau in IDN magazine gave me a euphoric experience and new perception about toys, and I also happened to be a toys collector. J-Town urban da’crew project won’t end here, this is just the beginning."
