TOYSREVIL in MBK Center, in Bangkok
Reacting from a "tip" from Topz Greenfull ToyDsign (on my Facebook) - I'd decided to venture forth to MBK Center in Bangkok (a walking distance away from my hostel too), to check out the toyshops in the mall, which I was told featured predominantly 'anime'-themed toy-offerings. After my fruitful (but short) visit to Klong Tom the night before, I realized I was sort of in a jazzed-up spirit to hunt for toys (in an unfriendly "vengeful-way", it seemed) on this faithful Sunday late-afternoon, when I was in Thailand, in the first week of April (for being invited over as a Judge for the CE Contest). My humble thanks to Topz for the headsup!
And what laid before me, was a pretty darn swell surprise - with little spaced shops who had toys from the floor to the ceiling (literally) teasing and cajoling me to enter and view their wares!
Seen on display were indeed anime-based toys (Anime-loving folks will LURVES this happenstance!), with Revoltech and the lot, along with McFarlene and blister-carded toys, and even traditional Hot Toys. Basically licensed toys, but unlike mass-market brands found in Toys'R'Us, IMHO. Only an extremely few shops carried other brands like this particular one which had Medicom Toys, catching my attention with blister-carded BE@RBRICKS and KUBRICKS! Hobby Master was it's name.
Frankly, I did not remember looking at the shop's names until I got back home and see them in the pictures, for which I am posting here LOL
The thing about MBK shops for toys, are that they are "concentrated" on the 6th and 7th floors, and not necessarily along the same corridor or stretch of shops, so you need to walk around the space, and look for them lined-up against the far ends of the mall. One of them was behind an arcade space. That was in fact "Hobby Master" actually :)
In a way, it seemed like a swell sort of "adventure" - in searching for the shops. I went to about 3 shops that were opened that day, and found one that was closed (so I did not bother to go up close to investigate what they had in their window-front). Given a chance, I would like to return again some day, and this time spend my time looking slowly thru the displays and enjoy basking in the glow of TOYS! *Muahahahahaha*
MBK is touted as the "Most Visited Mall In Bangkok" and it seems is a mall that has been around for a long while. Not the swish super-malls compared to the tourist-visits, but seems filled with numerous small indie-shops, and as well eateries galore - there is even a "food court"!
