Guardians of the Galaxy

Revealed along with the movie title cards from MArvel circa Comic-Con, was the concept art for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - where we get to see (L-R): Drax The Destroyer, GROOT, Star Lord / Peter Quill (hatin' on the design tho - missing the militarisque-designs of their uniform in the comics lol), Rocket Raccoon and Quasar.

The characters are based on the 2008 team = the modern version of the team formed in the aftermath of the "Annihilation: Conquest" storyline in the comicbooks [Read their Wiki entry here]. I had come to love the team after they were formed in the Star-Lord mini-series, but were not called "Guardians" then yet.

The mini-series first saw the appearance of Groot, and introduced Rocket Raccoon as a character in relation to the humanoids, when in fact he adventured in his own mini series years before that.


With the appearance of Thanos at the end of "The Avengers", we needed a "cosmic level" counter for the villain, hence Guardians of the Galaxy was conceived. In the comicbooks, Drax's mission in life, was to destroy Thanos! So that's something to look forward to hahaha In the regular Guardians' comics, there was a "Thanos Imperative" storyline as well (but I had by then stopped actively collected comics, so can;t really comment on that ;p).


Interesting the team does not include GAMORRA, MANTIS, or ADAM WARLOCK, and I'm fine with that … but they better include COSMO The Talking Dog! muahahahahaha Shown directly above is a panel from the "LEGACY" Graphic Novel (where the Guardians adventure first as a "team" in Volume 1), and a decent way to start getting to know the team as well.
