Art Basel - Hong Kong Edition 2013
The Hong Kong Edition of Art Basel launched May 15th and exhibited thru May 18th, showcasing a myriad of pop culture-themed artworks and sculptures and dioramas, a selection of images with which I have since divided between "On The Walls" (video sideshow above) and "On Show @" (three-dimensional artwork, shown in video below).
Of particular interest to me (and perhaps this blog) are self-portrait sculpts featuring Takashi Murakami and his dog, "Pom"! (also seen in canvased artwork for his solo show @ Galerie Perrotin).
And while I am neither an "Art Critic" or "Art Connoisseur", it is very interesting to see a whole lot of anime-inspired work, and how pop culture pervades that which is mass geekery for both the Japanese and now World Culture, or at least the images showcased here in this post. Interesting, indeed!
PRESS: "Welcome to the newest Art Basel show. With half of the participating galleries coming from Asia and Asia-Pacific, Art Basel in Hong Kong assumes a significant role in the international artworld, providing a portal to the region's artists. The new show gives galleries from around the world a platform in Asia to demonstrate the way they work with artists, and bring their highest quality work to Hong Kong." [www.artbasel.com]
