#throwbacktoythursday: House of Liu
Continuing yet another Crazy Label product (from last week's Treesonism) this time focusing on Di Di and Mei Mei from James Liu AKA Veggiesomething's HOUSE OF LIU vinyl figures!
With their distinctive shapes and color palette, they were literal adaptations from their 2D graphical illustrations by James. And they were pretty huge too! And those fantastic swords, with tassels? *SCHWEET*
While I've posted them unto a separate toy-review blog (that lay unacknowledged, unfortunately), this is the first time these images are on this particular blog! Much more has since been uploaded unto THIS Facebook album!
Everything in this toyline started with this two figures released in 2007 (I even had an interview with James & Andy Woo circa Taipei Toy Festival '07 where the two figures debuted), which then led to House of Liu Monks (including The Grand Master, Master, Disciple, Student and Baby Monk), Qing Soldier and Qing Pirate, as well the House of Liu Minis and subsequently blind boxed 3" Mini Contemporary Series.
Essentially the toylore of HOL-universe expanded to encompass the story concept by James Liu. Somehow I wish there was a more cohesive or obvious visual or promotional connection between them all, so stand above the toy-noise, and perhaps for folks to know what to expect and choose to collect … but of course I do not know the business ins-n-outs of the production, and am just day-dreaming loudly ;p … Would be interesting to revisit the series now though, with a mini figure (re)release and a book ("chinese kung fu manuscript"?) featuring the lore of both the story and toys? Heh.
