New 8” Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Kidrobot x Nickelodeon Released!
Kidrobot and Nickelodeon has launched a new series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vinyl figures, and I am excited!
An obvious visual departure from their recent super-deformed character designs in their capsule collection, this line-up features a stylised form design (*with somewhat slight “low-poly”-aesthetic), with the four turtles in flat colors of RED, BLUE, ORANGE and PURPLE - with their trademark weapons; the katakana, nunchucks, sais and bo-staff - and as well alternative colorways where BLACK “muddies” up the main 4 fours (you guys KNOW I am gagging for the Red+Black, right?).
I had wanted to say that if they had used “green ooze” instead of black, THAT would have been “novelty-cute”, BUT, if there were “secret chase” editions featuring GID-Green? That Would Be Awesome!
But NO, nobody said there were “secret chase” versions, so….
Currently available on Kidrobot.com, each 8-inch tall vinyl figure is priced at US$39.99 each, in window-box packaging, so this is not a “blind box” affair.
I certainly do appreciate Kidrobot going about the licensed property route, as they offer up a stylistic design take on the characters, and as well offer an alternative collecting option for fans of said licensed characters. It is after all a dollars-and-cents business, alongside nurturing and showcasing of “independent” artists and creators worldwide, IMHO.
For the collector, having “choices” and a variety to choose from (“accessibility” notwithstanding, of course) is expected and needed these days, IMHO … and today, amongst a sea of TMNT collectible releases, THESE are yet another choice presented, and I for one, like these immensely!
“Affording” them, however, is another story altogether… LOL
