A Look At Neko-Ear Bootleg Bearbrick
I take a quick look at a (possible) Bootleg Bearbrick, purchased from yeaaars back at a event held in the common public lobby of a mall (purchased by mum, actually :p), where this particular DIY blank-white piece featured “neko”/cat-ears!
I’ve previously blogged about the figure in 2010, but this is the first time I’m showing it on video (first Instagrammed here). As well I’ve reposted mages for your visual reference :)
And NO, I do not know WHERE to find these now, and I don’t know where to point you guys to anyways … Don’t Support Bootleg Toys! :)
And while I’ve not delved too deep into the origins, or if indeed this has been an “official” collaboration, I am not at all “surprised” with BB-bootlegs, just in this particular instance the result was decent-ish at that size, and via a legit mall too - who had added their branding to the printed box.
Even before that, there had been a proliferation of 400% sized BE@RBRICK figures too - found in most heartland malls, and maybe even at CSC (I couldn’t tell the difference without holding them in my hand LOL) - where the BBs I remembered were in soft vinyl, versus the ABS plastic of the OG versions! Admittedly I somewhat regret not grabbing a piece, as I could have reviewed it on this blog too, purely for toy-reference, I assure you LOL
I remembered them being stacked in their window-display black box too (I think there were faux text printing on them too, not too overt “Medicom Toy), “welcoming” me to own them, seen in a neighbourhood mall haha … Alas, all these figures “disappeared” just as quickly (within a couple of months' exposure, maybe?), no doubt a crackdown on bootlegged toys - of which Medicom Toy is officially distributed in Singapore via the Action City chain.
Cheers
