ELSEWORLDS on The CW
I have been meaning to post about the upcoming crossover event on The CW featuring DC Comic characters on television (since the reveal of the inclusion of "Batwoman"), with this year's titled "ELSEWORLDS", with thus far promotional images and behind-the-scenes snaps (courtesy of @StephenAmell AKA "Oliver Queen" AKA "(Green) Arrow"), and this is what we've seen thus far...
With the news of Australian actress Ruby Rose getting the role of "Kate Kane" AKA "Batwoman", we had a look at her in full costume (abetted in digital form?).
A behind-the-scenes image of Tyler Hoechlin as "Superman" was revealed on the set, wearing a BLACK Superman suit! Current news of a "Superman" film on television being developed makes perfect sense, especially now since actor Henry Cavill seems to have taken a back seat (everyone says "fired" tho) in the cinematic front ... it makes sense to somehow keep the character "alive" somehow in the DC Universe, innit?
A teaser poster for the event reveals both "Oliver Queen" and Barry Allen" has both switched super-hero roles, with Stephen Armell now in THE FLASH's scarlet suit, while Grant Gustin dons the (Green) ARROW leathers.
@bosslogic's version of the poster can not be unseen now... wait, there's more? :p
And as of today, actor John Wesley Shipp - the original actor who played The Flash in the 90s' TV show, and more recently as Barry's dad (in an alternate universe), dons his muscled red suit yet again, giving the fans the fan-service we'd all asked for and deserve!
What's next? How does SUPERGIRL play into the crossover? Will we see yet another incarnation of "Kara" as we did in last year's crossover?
WHAT-IS: ""Elseworlds" is the fifth annual Arrowverse crossover event, featuring episodes of the live-action television series The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl on The CW. The crossover is set to begin on December 9, 2018, with The Flash, continue on Arrow on December 10, and conclude on Supergirl on December 11. The crossover will introduce the characters Batwoman and Lois Lane to the universe, as well as the fictional Gotham City. In the crossover, Green Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl are drawn to Gotham City to confront Dr. John Deegan over his work at Arkham Asylum." (Wiki)
"DC's LEGENDS OF TOMORROW" had been apart of the crossovers in previous years (Heroes vs Aliens, Crisis on Earth-X), but will be sitting out on this year's.
The crossover will begin with The Flash on December 9, 2018, then continued on Arrow on December 10, and concluding on Supergirl on December 11, all on The CW. "The Flash, which normally airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm, and Supergirl, which normally airs on Sundays at 8 pm, swapped time-slots for the crossover." (Wiki)
"Filming for the Kent family farm occurred at the
same farmhouse used in the series Smallville."
Comicbook readers would be familiar with the notion of "Elseworlds", with it being "the publication imprint for American comic books produced by DC Comics for stories that took place outside the DC Universe canon," (Wiki) - which to me was the equivalent of Marvel Comic's "What If?", an imprint I adored (at times), as it provided readers and fans of the characters an alternate look at stories and past histories, IMHO. Something which I feel the upcoming DC cinematic universe might be delving into, with multiple looks into characters (one prime example being "The Joker" in its different incarnations).
The wiki explanation continues; "The Gotham by Gaslight graphic novel, featuring Batman, is considered to be the first official Elseworlds story. The "Elseworlds" name was trademarked in 1989, the same year as the first Elseworlds publication."
