"Last Resort" Custom by Klav9 for #FallingApart at New York Comic Con 2018
"FALLING APART" is the name of a massive group art show organised by Martian Toys, slated to debut at the coming New York Comic Con 2018 (Oct 4-7) via Booth 488.
Featuring over 100 artists from around the world (13 countries) working on Jermaine Roger's “Specimen” collectibles, today we feature the customs from Klav9 (thanks for sharing its us, Kevin!) - whom you can stay connected with via his Instagram & online shop!
"“Last Resort”, my piece for “Falling Apart”, a custom show on Jermaine Rodgers “Specimen72” toy from Martian Toys during New York Comic Con October 4-7th.
Within minutes of getting the blank, I had already broken the arms off trying to move them. It turns out they were glued in place… I played around with them for a while in different positions before deciding to remove the head as well. Once the head was removed the rest was obvious for me." - shared KLAV9.
"I wanted the paint to resemble the feelings from something like Jermaine’s paintings. Not sure if I succeeded, but that was the goal. I layered about 10 thin coats of lacquer to build up a soft varied surface before a few coats of various oil paint." - added KLAV9.
“Last Resort” by Kevin Derken AKA Klav9 is a OOAK figure custom hand painted with lacquer and oil paint with added wires and tubes. Priced at US$250, and comes signed on bottom of foot. Available at Martian Toys at NYCC and online afters (if unspoken for).
