Sofubi Casting Station with Sofubi-man Figure Max Toy Company
If you've been following Max Toy Company's socials (Instagram / Twitter / Facebook), you would've noticed the following figure set release: "Sofubi Casting Station with Sofubi-man Figure"! Alas as of this blogpost, the set is since SOLD OUT! But here's what you might have missed...!
Remember Mark's Sofubi-man figure based on the craftsmen casting out fav sofubi? Mark Nagata adds; "How's Sofubi-man gonna cast his Kaiju figures without a casting station?! I've always wanted to do this project and thanks to fellow Artist Javier Jimenez and Digital sculptor Andrea Calleja, we present the Sofubi Casting station!"
The set included a hand-painted casting station and loose mold. 3D printed, cast and sanded down by Javier (image above), with paints by Mark Nagata (below), and of course a hand-painted Sofubi-man (also by Mark) to pair up with the station.
And Mark even made a diorama for the figure set photo taking! No specific quantities were revealed, but they were each priced at US$160. Availability was first offered to Max Toy Club members (So I could not post the secret purchase link), so folks might want to get in on the membership the next time it is opened...!
Featured below is a video made by Mark Nagata (circa 2013), which shows (then) 84 year old Shimizu-san casting vinyl in his one man soft vinyl kaiju toy factory in Tokyo, Japan. The "Sofubi Casting Station" completes the experience of sofubi making, purchasing and collecting, IMHO. This feels a lot more "meaningful", beyond the transactional nature of "buying/collecting toys".
