"The Ghost in the Shell" Anime Update
Released is a NEW "The Ghost in the Shell" update for upcoming TV anime (since the announcement in 2024), featuring conceptual environmental/spacial designs from animation studio Science Saru, along with key staff revealed, all based on "The Ghost in the Shell" manga by Shirow Masamune.
PRESS: Today, the official title, key staff, teaser trailer, and visuals for the new TV anime series have been revealed. Previously announced in May 2024 as a new project from Science SARU, the series now has its official title: THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, keeping the same title as the original mangaās.
This marks the directorial debut of Mokochan, known for his work on DAN DA DAN and SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF. The script was written by acclaimed sci-fi author EnJoe Toh (Self-Reference ENGINE, Shadow.net). Character Design ļ¼ Executive Animation Directing are handled by Shuhei Handa (SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF, SPRIGGAN). Produced by Science SARU, known for INU-OH and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, the anime is set to air in 2026.
The new teaser video showcases key animation and storyboards, offering a glimpse into the seriesā unfolding drama. Also, the second teaser visual, illustrated by Shuhei Handa, features cyborg protagonist Motoko Kusanagi and the AI tank Fuchikoma, and evokes the spirit of Shirowās original manga cover sketch.". GHOST IN THE SHELL is a much beloved "property" at least for me, both as a cemented classic and sometimes mild disappointment, via different incarnations thru the years, since the 1995 feature film, 30 years ago! I spoke about it at length in my previous feature, and honestly my opinion has not changed, but for my current anticipation with the "reveal" of the nostalgic line-art seen in the poster image (versus the CG-rendered Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, which honestly dulled my excitement) ... and I cannot wait to see MORE to come...!
