LABUBU is Not Going Anywhere Soon
I am honestly fascinated with the trajectory of where LABUBU has been, and is going still. I have neither actively collected the figure(s) from the past or present, and honestly have not innate desire to do so for the future (just not my preference, sorrynotsorry), but that also doesn't mean I cannot respect it for where it came from, what it has become. Here's an assorted collection of happenings with Labubu and her creator Kasing Lung!
From luxury brand handbags to vehicles (above), to being apart of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (courtesy of Pop Mart), the hype is real and is felt around the world, and embraced as a icon of value to the adopted brands. The creator Kasing Lung himself continues to release his art, beyond "toys", and has since been appointed as the Artistic Director for ComplexCon Hong Kong 2026, so the hustle continues and cannot be denied. And THAT certainly ensures that "LABUBU" and "The Monsters" will contionue forth, even as or when the "trend" or "hype" fades, IMHO.
"The Monsters: Now and Future" - THE MONSTERS 10th Anniversary Tour has arrived in Hong Kong, and we have a walk-thru of the exhibits to gawk at (showcasing "paintings and artwork, from his original manuscripts, limited books, to endless array of joint dolls, take viewers through the fantasy world of elves"), on show now at @asiasocietyhk from now until January 4th, 2026.
Folks decry the "Downfall of Labubu Value", which might well be true, was these are for folks who have invested in the trend of the collectible, not that I think they'll be disappearing anytime soon ... but for "others"? Perhaps they'll just like what/who they like, irregardless of the "hype"?
And while I am not planning on snagging a collectible (although I did get a couple Lafufus thus far :p), I have become more intrigued with the trading cards...! But thank goodness I cannot afford the "hype" myself ... not need to ask "how much?" tho ~ heh.
