So THESE went home with me from the 11th Edition of Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Con 2018 ... #mySTGCC2018scores
And while the doors have closed at MBS Expo Halls for the event ... and while Yoko Yoko has applied to aching legs ... it is time to take snaps of toys and collectibles scored from the 11th edition of Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Con (8-9 Sept 2018)!
Featuring a mixture of generous gifts and purchases with my own hard-earned money (Items will be "separated" in slideshows here, thanks), here are the result of my weekend toy-hunt, set against the designs of Dino Howl Animation for STGCC, which I felt finally really gave an identity worthy of geekdom for the annual event, IMHO!
Debut release of “NORA” resin collectible from Taiwan toy designer/artist Fanny Kao (IG @fufufanny.kao).
Convention version “SKROLL” (Summer Beach Version) & “NIXX” THE RAIN FAIRY from South Korean toy designer / illustrator / DJ Lo-Fi Collective / Sunny and Cloudy Weathershop (IG @lofi_collective / @sunnyandcloudyweathershop).
“Sushi L.A. Maguro” (Fatty Tuna Edition) vinyl toy from Nakao Teppei (IG @nakao_teppei_illustration) x Sentinel (IG @sentinelcoltd).
Debut release of “FLIPPING THE BIRD” resin collectible by Manilla-based illustrator Creon Chkn Head (IG @chknhead / @creonchknwr.ph) - Since Sold Out at STGCC!
Debut release of “EVIL GENIUS” resin collectible by Manila-based apparel specialists Evil Genius Clothing Co (IG @evilgeniusccph) - Since Sold Out at STGCC!
STGCC-exclusive “Uozumi Kong” from Mame Moyashi x Ozzo Collection (Since review HERE on TOYSREVIL).
FYI#1: Expect to see MORE of the above featured collectibles on the TOYSREVIL in the near future, as I take a closer look at them, and share them with you :)
“Baby Oscar” #enamelpin from South Korean illustrator Jyelloween (IG @jyelloween).
FYI#2: SWIPE to view more images in subsequent posted IG-slideshows, with some select pieces being featured on TOYSREVIL laters (I generally do not review all items I purchase for myself, thanks).
Buying Toys from STGCC this year was quite a different feeling from last year's ... with a severely strapped personal financial status (I had to break out my piggy banks to change coins into dollars, to even afford the entry ticket), everything I bought was tinged with guilt and fear, with a sprinkle of lingering bitterness for taste too! (I received my salary a week after tho :p) ... but THIS year was a different story.
Saving throughout the year (local toyshops no doubt would hate me by no :p), I had also earned and received enough funds to somewhat comfortably expand my reach, within reasonable limits, and managed to come away with a choice selection, amidst a couple of random (somewhat regretful) grabs ... but that's like any other weekend toy-run at the former toy flea market anyways :p
I have learnt to appreciate the toy-hunt when the "game" is right in front of you, in-hand is positively different an experience than "online", for the most part anyways, and the annual convention has become a "guilty-excuse" to relinquish any semblance of self-control (except for "financial control", I am not going to lie :p) ... So Let The Toy-Hunt Begin!
I had been hearing (both online and offline) a lot of "complaints" abound of this year's STGCC happening in same weekend as Beijing Toy Show 2018 (Sept 7-9) - that had kept a few brands and names away (most notably Singapore's own Pobber Toys and Mighty Jaxx, and Japan's INSTINCTOY), but personally I was "grateful" for the surprising relief of not fearing I had been missing out on drops+releases - as I earnestly comforted myself - simply because I am not in that comfortable expenditure bracket that are the folks doing the complaining! I ain't no "Crazy Rich Toy-Buying Asian" here! LOL
Hey, POWER to those who could afford to or choose to afford to - It's all good in da boyhood for me, really! Although I cannot vouch for what everybody thinks otherwise of me ... or even if anyone does at all LOL :p
But of course I am speaking/blogging from my own personal P.O.V., and not necessarily of the existing toy-culture, much less the industry of toys and collectibles-collecting, innit?
Although being "spoilt for choice" and "able to afford more" is not a notion I'd soon remember (from those pre-"TOYSREVIL" days of wonton toy-devouring hunts OMG)... so yeah, I'm not complaining much this year, and truthfully feel it had been a fruitful convention for me personally.
So I bought what I liked and could afford, salivated over a few choice pieces (one day I'll be able to afford you gorgeous cold cast bronze beauty, you, and you, you flesh versioned devil), and frustration at missed Sold Out releases (you now which one, Angeline :p) ... but I'll get over them in time ... not before screaming-n-bitchin' bout "being poor" and all, innit? Welcome to the low-income-bracketed #toylife, people!
But ALL THAT aside? Welcome to my #STGCCscore for 2018!
So what did YOU get? I wanna seeeeeeee!
Cheers
