world outside my window part six
and like the many idol (talent?) shows on teeveeland, "we" have and/or are going to vote for "our favourites". yes, tis voting day and all the parades of contestants the past few days have come to a head ...
and 10 minutes was all it took to decide on the future of singapore (or at least my constituency lah). the seemingly innocuous and low-key polling center was but a mere stone's throw away; coincidently and conveniently situated just across the street from outside my window, at yonder primary school's canteen. so a "planned" mini-family "voting day outing" became a quick hop and walk across the overhead bridge and ye all-purposeful-stride and sense of self-empowerment was over in a tick and a half.so much for self-empowerment, innit? *heh*
the queue at the polling center was brisk. the people friendly. altho the "registration" was a tad OTT (IMHO) = i felt as if i was a dignitary being announced, before walking down the grand staircase at a gala dinner and dance ball(altho with waivering tack) ~ when they called out my name and registration number upon receiving my polling card; at a raised voice no less! ... but then again, it could've been a veiled intimidation strategy, innit? ~ becoz voting is supposed to be a "secret", innit? and here you are shouting my name and registration number? WTF? no, that did not sit well with me, no. well, at least the 4-digit registration number could be used to buy 4-D, innit? *hyuks* ;p
so much for the exprience of voting, innit? and as i wipe the tinge of phantom sourneess from the corner of myrabid foaming lips, i walk away knowing i had chosen a side ... my side (okay, that was lame, but who cares, innit? *heh*) ... as for who i voted for?
sssshhhh ~ it's a secret, innit? ...
nevertheless, the need for speculation is overfor now, becoz the deed had been done and the cross had been set (cross political-party box in voting slip to vote) and soon the results will be announced ... and we will all witness whatever change this country might (or might not) go thru ... and of the ramifications and repercussions of a party scourned a nation's will decision choice on a single day. but then again, i ain't a betting-man ... and even if i were, i wouldn't have had the moolah to, would i?
like an sms i received this morning said: "Happy Polling Day! Enjoy Your Rights" ... *enjoy them indeed*
