PLOT: "Set during the Cold War, a secret organization named "Patriot" gathered a group of Soviet superheroes, altering and augmenting the DNA of four individuals, in order to defend the homeland from supernatural threats.

GUARDIANS POSTER 1

Remember the days when everything "Russian" was the "enemy" in American movies? Imagine THESE guys existed then? LOL

"The group includes representatives of the different nationalities of the USSR, superpowers protagonists reflect strengths and traditions of the people of the USSR." (Wiki)

"Filming began on April 27, 2015, in Moscow while the casting process was concluded earlier in this year. Filming was continued in Moscow Oblast and in the Crimean peninsula, and was wrapped on July 14, 2015." (Wiki)

Scheduled for a release in Russia on February 23rd, 2017, currently there are no other countries mentioned to carry this film.

Even so, apparently a sequel, “Guardians 2”, has been planned, with Turbo Films, the Chinese distributor of the first film, as a co-production company.

Are we “superhero-ed out”? Hardly, as we’ve primarily been exposed to American/Hollywood styled fiction, as opposed to a much longer era of super-powered in spandex “live action” characters in different parts of the world, including the Matrix-isque KRRISH and G.ONE from India, varied incarnations from the East, with Hong Kong shenanigans and in particular Japan - where a parallel world of Super Sentai and Ultramans long existed before the current hype … and now, a Russian super team.

I’d like to think NOW is the time for such characters to enter the world stage, and is a perfect time to be embraced by the hype of the masses, before we all get truly “superhero-ed out” in another another 5 years-or-so LOL

I certainly hope they’d do a “X-Men Versus The Guardians” (I’m looking at you ‘Colossus” to be the link :p) before that time tho!

I truly would not have even envisioned such a notion, much less seeing a competent feature film starring “superheros”, back when I was devouring comicbooks in the 80s, welcoming the “trend” which started (for me personally) with Christopher Reeve’s SUPERMAN and subsequently director Tim Burton’s BATMAN (with Michael Keaton as “Bruce Wayne”).

Or I’ll be more than happy to “make do” with Deadpool batting it out with the Werebear! WHOO-HOO!

Featured below is the first “Announcement Trailer” from early 2015! And in time we will be taking a closer look at the individual team members, on PopcornX!
