the disappearing line between 3D + 2D
ever since reading about PES making his shortfilms downloadable unto PSP, i've gone back to where once i raved about - to discover some new content on his website; namely "The Making of" both "Kaboom" and "Roof Sex" (which i think is mofo-effin' brilliant) - as well as a *new* category titled; "Photos".
*PES rawks me world* ~ no doubt, no doubt at all.
and seeing that im (currently) in the spirit of "parallels", i parred the visual-feel i had (when i watch PES' videos) to that of a comicbook-cover artist a whiles back - to which i googled and re-discovered Tom Taggart's work on the Grant Morrison-era-ish Doom Patrol.
utilizing 3-dimensional imagery, Taggart had created a variety of collages that adorned 2D-comicbook-covers and trading cards, which leaves the viewer ("me" lah) gasping for reality, while neck-deep in a visual visceral onslaught ... a rough and tumble rust permeating beyond the printed page unto your psyche; much like PES' visual stories
for which another illustrator/artist-hero of mine springs forth: Dave McKean ...
... with his photoimagery+collage work; especially his earlier work on Sandman comic-covers = which were more "ethereal" rather than "visceral" (IMHO) = which always leaves me indeed gasping for phantom-air and sanity and wondering if im in a waking-dream ... McKean has since gone on to direct his first feature film; Mirrormask.
so as soon as PES'll offer-up a DVD of his films, i'd be in-line to grab it ... so too you should grab Dave McKean's Dustcovers: The Collected Sandman Covers 1989-96 at the very least ... (IMHO of coz)
*im just glad that we are able to see alla their work online, is all* :)
