patrick chow & 10K @ dimension 07, hongkong (oct 7-15)
seen @ Dimension 07 [tagged] was Patrick Chow's G999-booth,
displaying a series of figures dubbed: 10K [event pics via / tipoff]
intrigued by the character-forms shown, i bugged Patrick himself for the
origins of these "mystery" figures /// CLICK HERE TO READ ABOUT 10K
TOYSREVIL: who are the 10K? and what's their (toy) story?
PATRICK CHOW: 10K is one of my original character design works (the second series) - they are a group of the killers from different places in the world. Unfortunately, I still have no story line for them (I hope I will have it soon~~). here is their "introduction":
"Even though in the past few years there were quite a number of successful original characters created here in Hong Kong, most of them are cute cartoon characters. When you look at Japan, it is a land that can have cute cartoon characters such as "Hello Kitty" and "Pokemon", but at the same time they also have "macho" characters such as "Fist of The North Star" and "Masked Rider" in the market. Why can't Hong Kong learn from it? The success of the "Infernal Affairs" movie series and its characters clearly showed that the Hong Kong audience are waiting for "macho" and "stylish" original characters. We certainly hope that "10K" can be the first publicly embraced "stylish" original characters."
TRE: judging from the images you've sent me, they certainly look so, IMHO :) (you had me at "killers" - im a sucker for "assassins LOL) - i like the different body-forms and headsculpts; which i feel embodied a certain art-toy-aesthetic (IMHO) ... what type of figures are they? production toys? or one-off sculpts?
PATRICK CHOW: I had produced a series of marquette figures (4 of them) for sale in Toycon 2003. The material is Hi-Cast (Resin).
PATRICK CHOW: Actually, the first appearance of 10K was in the form of 1/6 action figures! I did want to produce it commercially then but felt the costume wasn't as perfect as I had wanted it to be, so the idea was cancelled (Hope I can find a good tailor in the future though).
TRE: as a 1/6th-collector myself, i certainly hope you can find a good tailor soon! :) what's does the future hold for 10K? i hope we will be able to see them soon?
PATRICK CHOW: As for the future, I hope the 10K comic can be released in 2008 as planned.

TOYSREVIL: thanks for your time and trouble, Patrick, and i personally hope 10K may one day indeed be produced as vinyl-figures, as well as 1/6th and look forward to the comic! :)
