"It's hard to imagine seven years worth of pure, unadulterated joy brought about by a shared love for things. Simple things, like a comic book, a basketball card, a plastic toy action figure, a Matchbox car or an old 80's die-cast robot. But these vestiges of childhood are precisely what sustain our imaginations, and carry on through time as replicas of the memories we cherished growing up. These days, these toys represent more than the scratched plastic of our youth. Now, these collectibles are part of a much bigger phenomenon called "pop-culture". And yes, the Philippines has had its share of pop-culture for the past seven years with the annual Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention.
And this year, the level of excitement has accumulated seven-fold, as fans of all things playable and collectible converge once again at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong to enjoy two days of sheer hyper pop-culture. It's a blast of the latest toys, handheld and web games, film and animation, graphic art and design, movies, music and costume play. Mixed in are highly-anticipated events like the Philippine launch of Batman: The Dark Knight Movie and major toy company product displays like LEGO, Stikfas, and Dig Deep Entertainment. And of course, the crowds all come to get their choice of thousands of different items to fill in the gaps in their collections, or to gawk at the colorful and flashy costumes meticulously prepared for Cosplay, a thrilling costume parade which is the highlight of each year's Toycon.
This event is presented (to you) by the premier organizing group for the collectors market, Collectibles Unlimited, partnered with the SM Megatrade Hall, Globe Broadband and the official TV channel, GMA. It is sponsored by MaxiCollector, Level Up Games, Warner Brothers Pictures, Psicom, LEGO, Fudge Magazine, Wacom, Solar Entertainment, Toy Kingdom and Eveready with the official online news media, Inquirer.net. Also done in cooperation with Stikfas, McDonalds, E-Games, Fully Booked, 2Rats, Comic Odyssey, and Hobby Master with Media partners, Manila Bulletin, Sugar-Sugar, Yehey.com, SPOT.ph, ClicktheCty.com, Jack TV, Crime Suspense, Magic 89.9, NU 107, Playground and Bounce magazine and the official Music channel of the Philippine Toycon, MTV."
