i hate toys! (the name of my new blog, not my current disposition! LOL)

And so the "trick" is to either keep the new I HATE TOYS!-blog R-rated (becoz folks can get really angsty about their opinions) or have it PG-rated (which frankly I myself am skeptical of being able to maintain the status quo on a regular basis :p).

I recognize (for a while now actually) that there is a need for collectors and naysayers to vent, rage and rant, and most times with a need to remain "anonymous" - which I heartily discourage on TRE - becoz essentially this blog is about the "celebration of toys" (if I dislike it or disagree with it, or how it's handled, I just don't blog about it much, simple really). Although negative opinions ARE welcomed on TRE (becoz without feedback, both negative with the positive, how can creators / producers / retailers improve on their products and services?) - I'd wish folks could be responsible for their opinions, and not cower under the heavy veil of anonymity. But that's just how I run my humble little weblog :)

But on I HATE TOYS! - everything is fair game, and anonymity is A-okay! (am I insane? yes I am)

Hoping folks could have a "decent debate" about any particular toy (from both consumer and creator / producer, I insist) may be a long-shot, but I'm thinking to try it out for a bit, maybe ...

But before I even begin down this non-politically-correct cyber slippery slope with a new sub-blog (and decide on carrying on with the notion) - I've a POLL currently up, in reference to the status of that blog: "Should this blog be rated R or can it be PG-rated?"

01. Make it R with "strong language" warning.
02. Keep it PG-rated and the comments flowing.
03. Doesn't matter either way becoz I have nothing to say anyways.
04. See where the cyber-winds blow...

Poll ends this coming Sunday, on October 5th. I will decide afters to carry on with it or not :p

  1. I think that rating the blog would mean that you accept any comment... I think that you can say and explain why you don't like something without being rude. And for me rudeness is killing any discussion. Let's see... ;)

  2. @Sjors > "Ratings" is so I can label the I HATE TOYS!-blog as such, so it doesn't come back to bite my cheap ass LOL - also it gives a direction on where the blog can possibly head, without me moderating too much of it. (Something which i recognize i will not be able to sustain in the long run)

im in it for the long-haul (or so i hope) in this "toy-biz" (as it were) and frankly i don't need "controversy" to sustain nor crap it up :p

i go around my own self-check PC-ness by not blogging about specific stuff and embargoing others on TRE ... if i aint got nothing good enough to say, i dont bother. altho it doesnt mean i dont allow others to do so lol

  3. @Denis > "I think that rating the blog would mean that you accept any comment"

= that is the initial idea for I HATE TOYS! An unfettered literal free (for all) flow of opinions is what i'm thinking of, which as of now is pretty "gimmicky", i admit - hence asking for feedback first from those who care enough to want to feedback LOL (thanks for the feedback, Denis!)

and while i dare not claim to be noble about the notion, it is also essentially something im very much interested to find out, for what do folks really wanna say, under the cover of anonymity :p

and from roaming the www, talking trash is both perversely entertaining, as well as illuminating-ish.

I am also thinking, with regards to the "advancement" of this subculture of toys, would this be a step forward? or huge leap backwards to the dark ages of the www...?

"I think that you can say and explain why you don't like something without being rude."

= am 100% with you on this. but my reality is, i get as much rants and rude raves left in my comments from anonymous folks, it leaves no room for "discussion" at all, or even add to the product, besides an anonymous rant.

    "XXX Sucks!"

    "XXX is leeching our money!"

but with no sustaining arguement of "why", becoz essentially there's no responsibility given to the comment, in so much as even leaving behind a nick.

As so much as I respect folks' opinion on things - positive or negative, i do not necessarily (have to) respect "anonymity".

at the end of the blog-day, this blog aint for casual blog-pedestrians to get their kick of the day but . I don't need the blog-hits that way, really :p

but I HATE TOYS may be open to that concept LOL

  4. disclaimer: i realized that maybe i was not too clear with the content of my blog-post - it is to label the I HATE TOYS! blog and not *I Like Toys* blog which you are reading now! LOL

this TRE-blog is not rated :p

  5. Just don't let it turn into a 4-chan where people post random crap and such. Some moderation will be needed if anon tags are involved. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

  6. @John M > "Just don't let it turn into a 4-chan where people post random crap and such."

= actually tis something im also considering leaving open to (hence the "gimmicky" aspect of that blog :p) - with moderation primarily for the "buy my shitte as this URL" or the usual viagra-peddling and make-money-quick-schemes

it is a direct opposite to open substaintial debates and discussions on THIS blog anyways lol - just wondering the feasibility of even having a I HATE TOYS!-blog if only for the "gimmick" :p

"Looking forward to seeing what you do with it!"

= me too! thanks for taking the time to feedback, John! :)

  7. You should at least moderate it, as you do this blog (for the more flame-like comments), but leaving it as R-rated and anonymous would be cool. While you might get people swearing for swearings sake (a cuss word is great for venting), when you don't feel uncomfortable voicing any opinion you might have it makes for a more open forum. Besides, I imagine most readers of TRE are collectors, who tend to be adults, so it's unlikely to offend all but the most prudish of people :)

  10. I certainly think this new blog is an awesome idea, and I second John M about preventing it from possibly devolving into a 4-chan. There really aren't enough channels out there for toy opinions...

I say go all-out with the R-rating indeed, and just save moderation for the spam and barbaric dead-baby comments.
