Personally, I'm beginning to really like the work of Owen DeWitt aka Grimsheep - the crispness of the lines and clarity of design, is subtly inspiring. And his subject matter and influences certainly parallels my own personal taste for pop culture references. His Kaneda-themed entry for the Humans Beware show [blogged] sparked my (renewed) interest, and with this customed-Ichibanboshi Ryusei Ninja completed for this weekend's (April 18th) It Came From Skullbrain group customs-show @ Super7 [tagged] - I'll be keeping a closer watch on this guy, and you should too, IMHO.
