The Empire Strikes Back 3D Trading Card Series from TOPPS

Scheduled for a May 2010-release is "The Empire Strikes Back 3D Trading Cards" by TOPPS [www-ad] which will see a basic 48-card set in "Widevision Format" featuring 3D-images. Shown above is the promo-card for Luke Skywalker sat within his Snowspeeder attacking a AT-AT Walker on the icy-battlefield of planet Hoth (priceless expression on his face too, innit? heh). Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back 3D Trading Cards also includes Autograph and Sketch cards (guaranteed One Sketch Per Box). Do check with your fav retailer for availability and price.


TRE-SAYS: While it has been literal decade eons since I last sated my desire for "widescreen" trading cards, in particularly Star Wars hobby cards. This newest release features a "3D" effect which harkens back to the early days of "lenticular holograms" (or sum such fancy moniker) ~ but of course this incarnation sees a crispier visual than before, IMHO ~ and tis with only common-sense I resist using my finger-nails to scratch the grooves (on the card, childish I know :p).

Capturing the basic effects-essence of a 3D-card is no doubt daunting (and perhaps even "foolish"), but nevertheless I have a video (posted above) and snaps posted below, for your viewing reference :)
