> my lifestory (or a part of it anyways)

gawd! i am so rusty! tis been a while where i actually haveta draw straightlines and rightangles with a ruler and pen. yearspass when i could churnout documentation and floorplans in a jiff and design came to me on a whim (not arrogance but confidence) but the past decade+ has diluted alla the skills and patience. i remember being tired and impatient with interior design after a year+ in the hospitality department (where we did hotels, service-apartments and the like) - becoz it would take sometime between conceptualization, drawing, documentation, renovation/fabrication and actually seeing the designs take place and finally done = between 6months to a year! couldn't take the waiting and the inbetweentimes were filled with stress and skepticism, not knowing what cockups were instore, or if the contractor would screw it up, or if the materials would arrive in time yaddayaddayadda ... then when an opportunity appeared on television, the then TCS (television corporation of singapore, prior SBC, post mediacorp) was advertising for set designers. and after doing some research online, realized that t'was something that might agree with me!

but of coz being the slackass i was/am, it took me near 2months before i responded to the call, which by then i was told was filled and closed! and of coz being the analarrogantbloke i was then; i actually did a coldcall and buggered/convinced them to see me and my portfolio. a meeting later the dudes (who later be my bosses) fell for it all, hook, line and kitchensink! YAY! and hence started my virgin foray into television set design for which i stayed and slogged for 4+a half years. unforgetful times and experiences, fer shure ... the quickturnaround time. the variety of sets and designs i could play with. instead of 2-6months, most times i could design and set the completed sets between 2days, to 4weeks (for the bigassones anyways) - and that sure as heck fitted my impatience for instant gratification! heh.

within that period, i had actually convinced/conned my boss into letting me do feature films. heh. first time (for forever fever) i had told my boss: "i wanna go do films, then i can come back and teach everyone". okay, done. the second feature (for the teenage textbook movie) i told him: "i'm gonna go put what i've learnt into practise and confirm, then i'll come back and teach everyone else". cool, sucker. heh. but the third time (for street angels) the dude wised up and told me: "you said you wanted to do movies. i let you. you said you wanted to teach us, but you didn't. i dun think i can let you go do anymore movies". heh. and i quit. and did the movie (of coz got more reason that just that lah, another story mayhpas for another time...)

(little known fact, i had agreed to do street angels, just a week prior to producers from eating air contacted me. but alas by then i could not go back on my word ... and hence i was stuck with a pseudo-lemon while "jiak-hong" went to critical acclaim while street angels came, went and ended up on tcs-channel 8. *urgh*.) such is my luck anyways ... had quite a few misses after that, but still managed to scrounge up three more flicks, until now.

the irony continues, as i just tookup this new interiordesigngig, another feature came-a-calling and of coz the schedules HAD to clash... i just can't win, can i? FCUK. oh wells, we'll see ... maybe i should just do my own film? hhmmm....

gawd, this seems like so much blatant selfpromo, innit? muahahahaha - aiyah, im just delirious and rambling on for no other reason but induldgent reminescing (spl) and that i've just finished my basic layout design at 7am (2 redbulls + lottsa coffee + an entire pack of menthols *coughcough*) for a meeting today that i have not idea what time for and that im still trying to stay awake ... no point sleeping now, innit? sure cannot wake up whatever time one! hahahaha (dunno why i think tis funny tho)....

shitte. tis back to the grind. somehow i'd liketa say i feel good - and weirdly i do, but i guess, tis come what may and the new day greets me with sounds of the morningtraffic, schoolkids across my flat and my trusty iTunes blasting stayawakemusic ... tis gonna be a great day! ... it had better be lor! ... heh :)
