what do you do when the power leaves you

electrical power, i mean :p

a scheduled "building electrical maintenance" in my block was forgotten this fateful afternoon ... quite the irony for i did see the notice plastered the noticeboard at the base of my life lobby (which is uncanny, becoz i never do bother to look at the noticeboard at all, if not very rarely), at the beginning of the week. i even told me dad about it.

it said: "electrical maintenance scheduled on this day,
between the hours of X to Y. thank you."

and lo and behold, as i cleared my crustied-eyes (woke up late mah) while waiting for my printer to churn out 2 stacks of featurefilm scripts (for me to read and assess), soundtrack of trainspotting pumping (or rather "trickling") out of me Mac-speakers, when the world suddenly ended everything went *BLANK*

... the blackness of the computer screen. the silence in the air,
except for the buzzing of automobiles ...

~ and that was it ~

** nothingness **

i froze, if only for a moment. random thoughts and events racing thru my mind ... then focus ... and like a fast-rewind of retraced-steps, im back at the void deck lift lobby; reading the notice. *damn*

*memory tracing can be quite a trippy-trip tho* cool :)

and so with nothing i could do electronically (fans in me room were down too, so hot and stuffy like blazes nahbey), i went for a late lunch with me dad and sis. we ate. we chat about our futures. we went grocery shopping (dad hasn't fully recovered, so we helped carry groceries). and i got me some vcds at the neighbourhood EZYVideo (rental vcds up for sale = cheap and good siah! :p) and we ended up having a chill-out coffee and cake at a corner grassroots style cafe. nice.

the power came back on. scripts were printed. film fest tix were bought online. emails were sent. and i started a new blog (not gonna "release it" yet, coz there's loads more to do still. heh :p) ... the world was "right" again ... which got me pondering a wee ...

in the past, i'd remark (to family and frens) that t'was scary that most everything in the world now is connected via either the net or computer systems; extreme prime example: the hospital ... and what would happen if all of them fail to work? how much of an impact on someone's lives would it be? ... tis life or death ... and not something you can "press the delete key" or "reboot".

*scary*

and maybe for me, today was just a gentle re-reminder that tis not the net that makes the world go around (and move), tis the electricity that powers them no shit sherlock! duh ... and the irony distilled truth is that it is us humans who power the electricity (or at least ensure they work), as do the net. as surely as electricity and the net has made our lives easier, has it also made "us" lazier? and a privilage as it should be to be able to have it ... we are responsible for our own lives, as well as the worlds ...

... even if your laptop has spare battery-life. heh

( **this ridiculous hohum duh? entry was written on a thursday evening and finished on a friday early morning and hence is incoherent. but i dun really care at this point. the rain is mondo heavy and i dunno whether or not it'll cause an electrical trip/blackout, so i'd just be lazy and post this before anything else happens. bleh-haha :p)
