an age of retro revival

the one thing that struck me the most while watching Disney's Sky High, was not of the various rip-off of superhero comicbook characters super-powered teens and the expected-disney-safe-celluloid-ride, but rather the retro-sounding soundtrack ... and after a little sleuthing 'round google, turns out that the ENTIRE soundtrack were covers of 80's songs! no wonder most of them sounded familiar ...which really begs the question: why get these young+new artistes to cover/record these "older songs"?

retro-schtick notwithstanding, while the movie proved ultimately entertaining (as "entertaining" as a movie would get @ a 2am screening *heh*), t'was the songs that stuck with me more ...

here's a songlist, with songtitle / current recording artist / original artist:
1. I Melt With You - Bowling For Soup / Modern English
2. Through Being Cool - They Might Be Giants / DEVO
3. Save It For Later - Flashlight Brown / The English Beat
4. Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Christian Burns / Tears For Fears
5. One Thing Leads To Another - Steven Strait / The FIXX
6. Lies - The Click Five / Thompson Twins
7. Voices Carry - Vitamin C / Til Tuesday
8. Please, Please Please Let Me Get What I Want - Elefant / The Smiths
9. True - Cary Brothers / Spandau Ballet
10. Just What I Needed - Caleigh Peters / The Cars
11. Can't Stop The World - Ginger Sling / The Go-go's
12. And She Was - Keaton Simons / Talking Heads
13. Twist And Crawl - Skindred / The English Beat

hear the soundtrack here @ Amazon ...and yes i is a geek *and that's a lotta links, i tell youse!* :p

... or maybe this had to do with Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) appearing in the movie? ... but then again, that would be more the 70's, innit?

altho, i haveta say (and since im going down this nostalgia-lane anyways), the movie also sorta reminded me of a coupla "old-er" television series; The Misfits Of Science and The Greatest American Hero ... which is sorta a weird-reminder/parallel, 'coz at the end of the day; tis the age-old story about learning to deal with "your powers" and "the responsibility of said power", innit? ... and i guess some things/themes you dun need to change ... except maybe improving on older-songs hahahaha~ altho i'd really appreciate if someone would cover the theme-song; "Believe It Ot Not" :)

*tis the age of retro-revivals, innit?*
