and in the vinyl corner

see the evolution of a designer vinyl figure, in this case; Muttpop's Tequila figure, via Vinyl Pulse's "Tequila Revealed" 21-part feature! ~ *in-depth and exceptional* :)

"Jerry Frissen and Gobi, the co-creators of Tequila, first envisioned creating a living and breathing character. They knew they wanted to create a charismatic personality that both paid homage and brought new life to Lucha Libre i.e. Mexican Wrestling. After  initial brainstorming, Jerry and Gobi came up with the Tequila character. Since Tequila was brought up on the harsh deserts of Mexico, Gobi used the cactus as inspiration for creating the visual aesthetics of the Tequila character design"

i first "discovered" this dude via Playtimes (issue #8/9?) and had enjoyed the illustrations moreso than the figure! (no photos of figure were revealed then lah :p) and personally, i've always enjoyed a good illustration and moreso an evolution of concept / drawing to actual toy .... *inspired-sigh*

am liking the possibilities of Lucha Libre, altho the only wrestling i am familiar with, are the "oldies" like Ultimate Warrior, Diesel, (the masked) Undertaker and even Andre the Giant! (which friggin effin' shows me age, innit? HAH) ... and with over 300 luchadors to choose from (well, the masked ones, anyways :p), tis gonna be a blast, innit? [via BoingBoing]

*or izzit coz we be influenced by Ultraman from our days of youth?* :)

heck, tis more kitbash-fodder for me 12" figures, innit?

i think i was bitten quite a whiles' back already, darn it! (shamless plugwhore is i) ...

*viva-la-luchadors!* ... *and TOYS, of coz!* heh :p
