the darkness to come

:: MOVIES / COMICS ::
when i first read that the Pang Brothers were gonna helm the big-screen adaptation of the Top Cow Production's The Darkness, i did a double-take. (not least becoz for a split-second i thought they were gonna do a bio-pic of the band ;p) - moreso becoz of how i felt that they've "arrived@" / "broken into" hollywoodland, quite a way from the 1999's Bangkok Dangerous ~ and i find myself with a slight-smile.

not a full-smile, unfortunately ~ for altho i had enjoyed Bangkok Dangerous immensely back then, i did not think much of The Eye when i first caught it (and subsequently avoided The Eye 2, The Eye 10) - it just didn't "do it" for me, i reckon ... i had "expected more" from Oxide and Danny Pang, i guess ... and the next thing i know? they're in-production of their first hollywood-flick; "The Messengers" *cool*

and while i deny them not the opportunity or even a benefit of the doubt (or two), maybe i'd rather cast my eye (lame-pun intended) on The Darkness itself ...

sure as i hope it ain't gonna be a costume-play, i reckon it might go by way of Dale Keown's illustrations hence = more demons than outfit ~ would be quite the CG-Fest, innit? or maybe it'll be more of shadow-play? like their Eye-Trilogy; more shrieks and starring into the darkness (i'm on a lame-o-roll here! ;p) ... then of coz there's the USD$28-Mil budget lah ... and of coz i could be so blatantly wrong - they haven't even written the darn thing yet, innit? *heh* ... altho trying to keep the story grounded within the realms of "reality", seems the way to go for most features nowsadays, much less comic-book-adaptations ... and i can only hope that they dun make/market them demon-creature plush-toys after the fact *shudder* :p
