discovered (late, as usual *groan*) the existence of another comic-made-into-movie, this time from the eastern side of the globe ...Dragon Tiger Gate (Long2 Hu4 Men2) is currently in production for the silver screens. based on the long-running comic book (a chronological history, in Mandarin = babelfish it here) and stars Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse (The Promise) and Shawn Yue (Infernal Affairs, Initial D) and directed by Wilson Yip (Sha Po Lang). seeing both the video and production stills has left me with mixed feelings ... everything looks exciting and all (always happy to see movie-sets being built lah :p) but the actor's hairstyles just puts me off somehow ... mayhap tis a "period-piece"? (ie: '70's) or mayhap they're doing the "stylized"-thing a tad too OTT? but then again, what else is there to lose? *heh*
and in the "comic-made-movie-made-toy"-scenario (dun really know if they already have a PC-game out , as all concept properties "path" evetually lead to nowsadays *heh*), the TOY adaptation came out waaaaaay before the movie actually! sculpted by Eric So and manufactured by Hot Toys = one of my first eBay purchases when i was at the height of my "vinyl/toy-fever - which currently sits on my dustydusty-shelf ... maybe tis time for me to break them out for some toy-fun?
personnally, i have not read a single issue of Dragon Tiger Gate (tis a literal translation of the Chinese comic-title = bugs me laughing shitless, it does! :p) and can nary muster up any feelings or memories ... only but for past comics adapted into film, ie: Stormriders (Feng1 Yun2) - the movie, NOT the teevee series (*ack*), mind ... and considering t'was made in 1998, it really wasn't a half-bad comic-adaptation; complete with decent visual-effects! (IMHO), which personnally was much better than the subsequent Man Called Hero (Zhong1 Hua2 Yin1 Xiong2) - which dropped the ball a bit, replacing more effects for a competent story (IMHO) - ironically for which i was a fervent "reader" in times past of the comic ("reader" meaning i partaked of the excellent illustrations rather than the "words" coz me Mandarin sucks-rancid-balls *heh*) - in the end, i can only hope that the movie-adaptation would do the comic proud :p
but nevertheless, tis a movie i'd try to watch, even if it's on DVD ... *heh*
