from sketch to screen

:: DESIGN ::
had just completed a teevee design project for AXN, titled Samsung Sports World, which is slated to go on air @ 830pm (singapore time) tonight! ... i'd liketa share with ya'll here; a short visual chronology from design sketch to screen:

the initial design sketch of the (current) proposed set (after a coupla rounds of "developementals" already, mind). my concept was going for more of a casual "bar stool"-presentation style of presentation and set. also when the set goes "higher", we'd see less of the studio floor and hence no need to hide all the ugly electrical-wires, innit? *HAH* basically, no budget? we make do with what we have ... but of coz peeps dun think that way, i reckon *BAH*
...........................................................................................................................
the "presentation drawing" of the proposed sketch. client approves, i am happy. altho still quite skeptical, coz they actually wanted GLASS in the set. NOBODY does that, especially if it's a weekly show that needs to be striked and set 52-times! sure break one *aiyoh* but alas common-teevee--sense made no sense at all to the "powers-that-be". one would wonder how the fuck they got their jobs in the first place, innit? *BAH*
...........................................................................................................................
new info comes in: presenters are not comfortable with the bar-stools (during their studio test-read/shoot) and after deliberations, i scrambled to adapt the set to a lower level (which affected my documentation/construction drawings for the set-builders), to accomodate the request for lower chairs/seating. altho by my standards, i'd care less what the peeps feel and rather concentrate what the program NEEDS. to make it decent and to make it work, IMHO. but of coz we be all human, innit? no sense making another suffer, innit? *heh*
...........................................................................................................................
the restrained "chaos" that is the initial set-up; as all studio-setups are, mind. :p
...........................................................................................................................
the bare-nekkid set without the benefit of studio lighting and camera framing. the four chairs are for contingencies where there might be more than the two presenters in the studio, ie: guests. altho i'll have you know the chairs are bought from IKEA at $299 and if the programs need more? just go get themselves lor! *muahahahaha*
...........................................................................................................................
testing options of studio-lighting. the red-background is more for branding of AXN (very chinese new year-ish, innit? *heh*) and also as an option in days/recordings to come. heck, this program's gonna last a whole YEAR! *heh* altho i'd light it another way, but tis not my job to and all i can do is offer suggestions and have them fall back into my face, nahbey lor. and client did actually come to my face and asked how come the set looked "cheap"? becoz tis not just the set, but the lighting that plays an important part too. no point also having a spectacular set but the lighting fails.
...........................................................................................................................
we settled on a calmer-blue proposal, in the end. not so sure about the pink biker tho also along the lines of sponsor's colours lah :p ... notice in place of the sponsored LCD-screen is a poly-board! used for framing purposes, of coz :) and fuck them basturds who turn off their mobiles and pretend never to receive calls for technical assistance. YOU KNOW WHO U ARE, U ASSHAT. altho it didn't affect my work directly, it bugs me to fcukin-shitte peeps like that exist. fcuk'em.
...........................................................................................................................
LCD-screen in place and program-ident-logo online. some height adjustments were made, including shifting of certain iconic-images ... in this instance, the "tennis-girl" replaces the "biker dude" of previous and now "she" has a "motorbike" for "legs"! hahahahaha (of coz you'd not be able to see it on screen lah *hahahaha*) hey, if ya wanna fuck the set up with your shenanigans, go right ahead! you're paying for them "cross-dressed-sports", innit? im over fighting with deluded fools over what they think is "good design", becoz they know jackshitte is all but haveta put up a front, so go ahead fools! *BAH*
...........................................................................................................................
the set lit-up on day of shoot/recording. notice "motorbike dude" having a tennis-skirt for a bottom, image-right *ahahahaha* (amendments are being put into action now :p) also notice the video-recording of the two presenters during test-shoot, sitting on bar-stools ... gawd, they'd be happy-campers now, innit? *heh*
...........................................................................................................................
our two stellar presenters, Ben Heyhoe Flint (left) and John Faulkner (right) = great blokes, by-the-way :) but the coffeetable i hated to no end. found no use for it. but clients wants it, so a compromise was in order. so i suggested a big bowl of popcorn every week! or at least a coupla mugs, with the logo-brand on it, at least, innit?
...........................................................................................................................
the two presenters sitting wondering when their coffee-mugs (with corporate branding, no less) are gonna appear on that lonely table between them ... *HAH* and of coz the fcukwits responsible for the bleedin'mugs forgot to bring them down to the studio on the first day of VTR lah! *sigh-and-shakes-head*
