99 muslim superheroes

:: COMICS ::
as reported via newsarama, Teshkeel Media "will be adapting/publishing Marvel Comics for a Middle East audience", with the first comic titled: The 99.

"(these) original comics will be based on an Islamic archetype: by combining individual Muslim virtues — everything from wisdom to generosity — they build collective power that is ultimately an expression of the divine ... Muslims believe that power is ultimately God, and God has 99 key attributes ... Those attributes, if they all come together in one place, essentially become the unity of God."

Teshkeel chief Naif al-Mutawa also "mentioned" that "he’s well aware that his comics may not find fans with all Muslims. Traditionally, personification of the powers of God or re-imaginings of the Koran are not allowed in the stricter approaches to the religion."

personally, tis a thin dividing line between what is "right" or "blasphemy" (and i sure as heck ain't tryin' to stir-up anythin' yah?) - amidst all the machinations creation (of good intent, i surmise), but i reckon tis another step toward "unity" and mayhap even "peace"? or am i thinking too much into it again?

with the advent of India-based comics and superheroes, together with the age-old-history of Chinese/Mandarin comics (altho more "martial-arts" than "superheroes"), i reckon t'would be pretty cool; if there ever will be a "nation-scaled-crossover-event" in comics (ala Marvel/DC crossovers) and that would be quite exciting indeed! *i wish*

Newsarama has a 12-page preview of the comic here :)
