marvel zombies

upon initial flip, i wasn't really sold on Marvel Zombies ~ finding the art murky and the premise a blatant rip-off of current zombie-flicks and trends (yes, ignorant was i) ... then the next time when i flipped thru a reprint issue#1 and had the chance to literally read a few pages ~ and i was sold! grabbed issues#1-4 (issue#1-reprint) and had just finished issue#5 from my weekly comic-run and im laughing me zombie-lurvin'-ass off!

for sure, this ain't supposed to be a farnie-book. tis not like that. while not taking itself seriously, tis a serious-zombie-comic in itself. as serious as superheroes-turned-flesh-eating zombies can get, i mean! Robert Kirkman handles this zombie-fest with a deft-pen (spot-on dialogue and situations) and tongue-firmly in-cheek (zombie-hulk not like taste of zombie heroes), while providing the zombified-former-heroes a semblence of a brain and enough intelligence (including the writing) to make this shebang work (IMHO) and leave the readers (in this case, me) hankering for more (the end page of issue#5 is to die for *LOL*) .. and as gory and macabre as all this might seem to be? tis just a comic-book (and a good one this is, mind) lor and enjoy it for what it is :)

... and my sincere apologies to Sean Phillips for ever doubting his artwork. as murky and moody as it may seem in this comic, i would haveta admit: it fits and suits this comic-book very well (as was his Sleeper for ImageComics). neither too "real-life-realistic" (for fear of being way too serious) nor too corny-cartoony (for fear of making it a laugh-fest) ~ but good enough to take this book (and his efforts) seriously and am highly appreciative, i am :) ... and mondo-kudos to the painted covers by Arthur Suydam; with homages to "iconic-Marvel-covers", in his zombified-versions and they be stunning indeed!

personally: tis a recommended read (even if only for once) and get the tradepaperback (if you can wait) or get your hands on the comics (even if it's reprints). meanwhile, let these other "folks" convince ya instead:
