facilities include (eventually): hosting your own comics and tracking your fav comics online, as well as your usual social network (which i really hope will NOT mean another round of spam.emails *crosses cyber.fingers* ;p) ~ and of coz being the web-'hoe cyber-squatter that i am, i've signed up (be my fwen) and all this happen to come at a particular poignant time, especially with the recent announcement of the First-Time Writers and Illustrators Publishing Initiative (fund) by our local Media Development Authority:
"Organized by the National Book Development Council of Singapore (NBDCS) and the MDA, the Initiative awards S$8,000 to each successful recipient for the publication of their first book. Furthermore, selected applicants in the Comics and Graphic Novels category will also be able to see their works published in a six-issue anthology series produced by top local comic publisher, Chuang Yi Publishing.

Explaining the decision to expand the Initiative this year, Mr Seto Lok Yin, MDA’s Director of Industry Development said: “Media companies in Singapore are now taking advantage of the increasing global demand for comics and graphic novels. For example, local companies such as Creative MediaCom, Mojeu, Illustrated Orchids, and Imaginary Friends Studios, have ventured into developing original content for the world market.”

jumping unto the latest moneymaking bandwagon long have i had the notion and desire to do comics, as a living no less (which has since burnt to but an ambered crisp now) and opportunities had come and slipped by and mayhap even yanked from under me, all these fickle years ... and as much as i am deemed to be lacking in skills nor technique, i stand by my passion and ideas, but what the hey ~ tis not as if im doing anything about it now, innit? *heh*

Annie has something to say about this and i tend to agree to a degree and to add to that, maybe folks should be looking at "quality of content" as well?

or mayhap the future of local comics lie in bits'n'bytes rather than paper and staples? altho i'd say it totally deviates from the pure joy of holding the comicbook in one's hands, innit? (i know i'd miss it immensely) it sure as heck "beats" the dollars and cents that restricts and/or even hampers the development and eventual growth of a comicbook-entity, seemingly in the local context, innit? ... but then again, there's only so much "passion" can take one, if one is to "survive" in the 1/1-real.world, innit?

but as a business, how "successful" do we dare expect to be? ... but as a "passionate pursuit"? for "shits and giggles"? LOL ... but then again, mayhap it would be as fun (as well) to have collaborations online? how does that sound? *heh*
