taipei toy festival 2007 wrap-up: dark box workshop

Dark Box Workshop had a varied of toys on display at the recent Taipei Toy Festival 2007, from the Shadowman family of figures [blogged / tagged] to blind-boxed mini-toys like the Monster Bomb, to prototype figures, like the new Machi/Jeff figure (above-image-right).

i had the opportunity to have a wee chat with Dominic (chief of DarkBoxWorkshop) on his products and personal reactions to the TTF ... /// CLICK HERE TO READ

TOYSREVIL: how was the TTF this year, Dom? compared to previous years'? how many years has DarkBoxWorkshop been at the TTF?

DOM: I think Taiwan is become a stronger market for Designer toys. And yes we have participated in this fair since 2005.

TRE: what did DBW have on display at the TTF this year? maybe you could give us a rundown? and how fan's reactions were to them?

(1) Shadowman: We did well with this item, selling out all our stock taken for this show.

(2) Shadow-woman: We had her just for display. Many people were asking about her, for which we will plan for a production in 2008 and maybe have her available for TTF 2008. [blogged]

(3) Mini-Shadowman: There was also a lot of interest for this micro-man sized 1:6 version of our Shadowman, which was also on display only.

(4) Monster Bomb: This was a limit of 60pcs per colorway, more than half of which were sold during the show ... this looks like a new "fashion trend", maybe? :)

(5) Q_Q Bomb: The print of this item utilized the MSN-icon, with a total of 18 styles. This item was on display the previous year.

(6) Smokin Joe: 30pcs of each colorway we brought for the show had sold out within the first 2 days of the show.

(7) Machi (Jeff): One of our newer figures, this was for display purposes only. There were a lot of inquiries for this figure, ie: release date and clothes-set availability ... but i think i will be making more accessories, like new shoes and real caps and be sold as a complete set, rather than loose. The body of the figure is, of course a Shadowman's :)

(8) also on display were LimitedToysDesign's Mr.Colonne [blogged] and P-Boy

(9) Silver Death: We just had the display board on show because the mold was unable to be finished in time ... maybe next year I have to make it earlier :p

TRE: that's unfortunate, i was really looking forward toSilver Death :p ... but Machi/Jeff looks very interesting, IMHO - and you know how crazy i am over 1/6-sneakers! LOL ... and what did you liked and hated about the TTF?

DOM: For me I liked the Taiwan people, because they liked to take photos and like to have designer's autographs. As for "hate" - it was just too hot (warm) at the fair!

TRE: how would you improve on the TTF next year?

DOM: I hope we could produce more fun designer toys and also wish do some crossover toyz. And we also hope more people could join in the fun with us and "make more sound" on our toyz.

TOYSREVIL: thanks for your time, Dom and good luck for next year, and maybe i'll be able to meet-up with you for TTF 2008, if not earlier! :)
