about that robotech movie

i remember being apprehensive (to say the least) when t'was announced that Tobey Maguire was going to play 'Peter Parker'...but since then, i can't imagine anyone else who could be Spiderman (with the fine exception of the daytime-soap that was Spidey3)...but now as "Rick Hunter"?
HollywoodReporter reports: "Warner Bros.Pictures has picked up the rights to bring anime classic "ROBOTECH," which featured giant robots known as mechas, to the big screen. "Spider-Man" franchise star Tobey Maguire is producing through his Maguire Entertainment and is eyeing the lead role in what the studio plans on being a tentpole sci-fi franchise ... We are very excited to bring 'Robotech' to the big screen," Maguire said. "There is a rich mythology that will be a great foundation for a sophisticated, smart and entertaining film."
= which in Hollywood-terms might mean: **Transformers kicked-ass and giant retro mechas are going to be THE Big Things at least for the next two to four years before it all bottoms-out with rubbish imitators** /// READ MORE HERE

hell, just gimme a kickass transforming VF-1 Valkyrie and a Mospeada-bike and
all will be fine and dandy :) - it's about the vehicles and mechas anyways *LOL*

"Robotech is a science fiction franchise that was launched by an 85-episode adaptation of three different anime television series. Within the combined and edited story, Robotechnology refers to the scientific advances discovered in an alien starship that crashed on a South Pacific island. With this technology, Earth developed giant robotic machines or mecha (many of which were capable of transforming into vehicles) to fight three successive extraterrestrial invasions." [wiki]

  1. I hope they won't screw around on this one. Things such as pretty cool mechas ruined by terrible script etc...

  2. oh man, "Sky Captain" just suddenly popped into mind ... different genres, i know, but yes, a superfleuous (spl) script would spell the end ... the trick is to compress the entire storyline into a single/trilogy? (i would assume tis a trilogy, as ALL marketable products are)..

altho i wonder if Marcross/Robotech-fans would be as vocal as Trans-fans tho ... heh :p
