even before PEECOL Series One has officially dropped, Kidrobot has announced the release of Series Two for a November 29th-drop! and from my interview with creators, eBoy, they are currently working on Series 4 and i have no doubt this series would go on for quite a while more, IMHO :)seen on the KR-forum thread are a few more peeks into PEECOL vinyl-citizens, with no doubt mixed reactions from collectors, for which i have this theory (do bare with me) ...

frankly, i feel a vast majority of collectors (no, i dun have stats to back this up) out there are possibly elitists. toy-snubs, if you may. and while i suspect it's not for lack of respect nor admiration for the CREATORS, but moreso the TOY FORM, and sometimes even GENRE ... so too a certain amount of leeway is accorded/given to their own FAV ARTISTS, when they lay their collective pens and paints to a figure (sometimes irregardless of the form, toy or not), IMHO.
hey, nothing "wrong" with that, really (i insist) - becoz it IS about personal preference (am not event talking about "taste" or "opinion"), IMHO ... and that's what makes the toy-realms so full of "life", innit? i for one welcome the diversity (even tho i may have my own opinions on a few of them as well), if not we'll ALL be getting the SAME type of figures at every single drop everywhere, innit?
i like PEECOL ... you don't need to like them if you don't want to. it's cool :)

for many fans the contribution of eBoy to this project is what counts.
ReplyDeleteseeing the toy's form not pixel-art enough is what's causing the mixed reactions. if KR starts doing other artists designs there will be no trace of eBoy whatsoever.

ReplyDeleteI love these. I'd actually prefer to see eBoy run with it for a while before having other artists do their interpretations. I don't want them to be Dunnies. I want them to be one huge CONSISTENT story with a single vocabulary. But the artist series are inevitable... Let's just wait a bit!

ReplyDeletei do agree with you Mark. frankly i'd rather see just eBoy's designs and no one elses ... but for the sake of speculation, an artists' series is not a SHOULD HAVE, it is an ENVITABILITY ... LOL ... i for one can't wait to have a chance to have an entire series of OG PEECOLs myself :)
